Westgate…A reflection

I am deeply crushed at the events that unfolded in Kenya over the past few days. The Westgate attack will forever be embedded in my soul. I have shed tears and hardly slept after the events unfolded. I will not go through the horrific details, I will leave that to the media. I write this post as sort of a soul searching moment. As a Christian, I feel like I have so many questions. Why did this happen to us? Why did God let this happen? Why did he not send angels to rescue the children? Why didn’t a lightning bolt fall from heaven and strike the attackers? So many questions; most unanswered. I however do not question the existence of my Lord.  I am confident that my Lord reigns. He loves us…I can’t explain my conviction but I can tell you that once you are saved and begin to get a glimpse of my Lord, and his purpose for us, there is a reassurance. A hope….not as the world gives!!! A peace….not as the world gives!!! …but one that stems from the Holy Spirit.

John 14:27

New International Version (NIV)

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

I have cried tears when I saw the children in pain.  I bleed from my soul because I know it is my calling to work with the children and less fortunate. I have been greatly affected by this attack. It makes me want to hasten my calling. I want to be equipped NOW to help! I know that this will come in your timing Jesus, but know that when you call…I will answer!

I love this story of Elisha. He was surrounded by his enemies but the angels outnumbered them. God blinded the attackers and thus they were unable to see Elisha. How I wish this happened in Westgate. I picture 12 foot angels picking up children, men and women to safety. Yes, I know there were heroes in the midst of this all…but somehow I picture a heroic rescue like this. This is the verse I was talking about:

2 Kings 6:8-18

New International Version (NIV)

Elisha Traps Blinded Arameans

16 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

17 And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

I will end my post abruptly. I have no conclusion. I am in bad shape…If I ever doubted my calling the events that transpired over the weekend spoke to my soul. I will make a difference someday. I have been both called and chosen!  Jesus, I know you will be faithful to complete the good works you have started in me.

My love, I love you so!

  1. God's love says:

God has already equipped you for such a time as this. What else are you longing for?
Don’t let fear hold you back from your divine calling.
